Tempo Book It Box Office Pro · Add-on for the free plugin
Everything show night needs. In Box Office Pro.
Box Office Pro adds the drag-and-drop seat designer, a box office for walk-up sales with card readers, a continuous door scanner that keeps working offline, promo codes, spike mode for the big on-sale morning and deeper reports. It sits on top of the free plugin, so nothing you already have changes.
£59.99 a year, or £5.99 a month · One site · 14-day money-back guarantee
Prices before VAT. Needs the free Tempo Book It Box Office plugin (1.1.2 or newer), WordPress 6.4+ and PHP 7.4+.
The three big ones
Built around the moments that make or break a show
Drawing the room. The day itself, at the desk and on the door. And the morning tickets go on sale, when everyone arrives at once. Pro was built for those three, and the rest of it follows.
Draw the room exactly as it is
The free plugin builds a grid. Pro gives you a canvas. Add blocks of straight or curved rows and round tables, drag them into place, rotate them, and label the exits and the bar. Click a row to number it or set its band, click a seat to mark it accessible, restricted view or blocked. Buyers see exactly what you drew, on a laptop or a phone, and pick their own seats.
- Curved rows, round tables, stage shapes and text labels for landmarks
- A colour for every price band, with guidance that flags bands that look alike, including under colour blindness
- Performances sell against a snapshot, so redrawing the venue never touches a show already on sale
A box office for the day itself
Someone walks up to the desk, or rings in. Open the Box office tab, pick their seats on the same map buyers use, and take the money: cash with the change worked out, a card reader, a terminal reference, or a complimentary ticket. The order is paid and the seats are gone before they've put their wallet away. Print the receipt or email the tickets, then start the next sale.
- Cash, card terminal, complimentary, or a Stripe Terminal card reader driven from the till
- Staff can sell before the public on-sale time, and promo codes work at the desk too
- Every sale lands in the same orders and reports as web sales, with a cash-up by day and by staff member
On the door, scan after scan
The free plugin opens a booking from a QR code. Pro turns any phone into a full-screen scanner that never stops: point it at the next ticket and the next, green for in, amber for already scanned, red for the wrong night. A party pass admits the whole group in one scan. Lose the Wi-Fi in the foyer and it carries on, checking tickets against tonight's list on the phone and syncing when it's back.
- Continuous camera scanning with sound and vibration, plus a typed code for a crumpled printout
- Works offline: tonight's ticket list is cached on the phone and scans sync in order when the signal returns
- Counts per door, undo, and the Tempo door role so stewards see nothing but the door
The door, screen by screen
Colour a steward can read at arm's length
Five screens cover a whole night on the door. Full-screen colour, big type, and it works offline once it has tonight's list.

ScanningPoint the phone at the ticket and it reads by itself. Tonight's tally stays at the foot, and the camera runs only while this screen is up.
Green means inSeat, name and performance, then back to scanning by itself. Two seconds, next.
Party passFamilies come in on one code. Count them through; anyone not here yet stays valid.
Already scannedA screenshot shared round the family gets caught: when, which door, and a decision for the steward.
Wrong performanceRight show, wrong night. Send them to the box office, or admit anyway.
Spike mode, for the morning everyone arrives at once
Turn it on before a big on-sale and buyers who arrive together get a numbered place and a waiting page inside your theme, then walk through in turn at a rate your hosting can take. The rate tunes itself: if the server slows, admissions ease off; when it's quick, they speed back up. Nobody can join before the sale opens, places go by luck rather than connection speed, and a closed tab keeps its spot.
- Hundreds waiting cost the server almost nothing: the queue page polls a static file, not PHP
- A capacity check finds a safe admission rate for your hosting and applies it in one click
- "Tell me when it's my turn": a chime, a buzz and a notification, then straight into the seat picker
How spike mode keeps the site up
- A pass, not a free-for-all Seats can only be held with a live admission pass. Each pass is for one performance and one window of time, so nobody can queue early through a quieter show and skip the line.
- Tunes itself to your server Every 30 seconds it looks at how fast the seat picker is answering. Slow, and the rate drops. Quick, and it climbs back to the ceiling you set.
- Fair at the moment it opens The waiting page counts down on the server clock and joins at the instant, plus a random fraction of a second, so the fastest broadband doesn't always win.
“Places go by luck rather than connection speed.”

The rest of what's in the box
-
Promo codes
Percentage or fixed amount, limited to certain events or performances, with a date window, a use cap and a minimum ticket count. Applied at checkout and at the till; the buyer sees the discount before they pay.
-
Reports that answer the real questions
Filter by event, performance and sales period. Sales over time, by performance, by section and band, by ticket type and by payment method. Promo code performance and attendance by door. CSV for every table, plus full orders and tickets exports.
-
Box office cash-up
Cash, card and complimentary totals by day and by staff login, from the same orders the web sales use, so the till reconciles without a spreadsheet.
-
Stripe Terminal card readers
Take card payments at the desk on a Stripe reader driven from the till. Uses the Stripe account you already have, so web and desk sales reconcile in one place. A simulated reader in test mode lets you rehearse.
-
Per-row and per-seat control
Number a row from either end, skip blocked seats, set a band or an attribute for one seat or a Shift-drag selection. Duplicate a block, snap to grid, undo.
-
Band colours with guidance
Give each price band its own fill and outline. Pro checks contrast, flags bands that look alike (including under red-green or blue-yellow colour blindness) and warns when a colour clashes with the chosen-seat or sold-seat colours.
-
Buyer view options
Choose whether seat numbers print on the plan, whether they show as a number or the full label, and whether row letters sit beside each row.
-
Phone and walk-up sales in one place
Name and optional email, a ticket type per seat or quantities per type for general admission, then a receipt with print, email and new sale. Never a pending order, so seats are never stuck.
-
Scanner for every kind of ticket
Reads the QR from a PDF ticket or party pass, a raw code, or the printed TT-ABC123 short code. Wrong performance is held back until a steward says admit anyway.
-
Free stays free
Pro hooks into the free plugin rather than replacing it. Deactivate Pro and every free feature keeps working, with your events, orders and venues untouched.

Questions people ask before upgrading
Straight answers on what Pro adds, what it needs and what happens if you stop.
Do I need the free plugin as well?
Yes. Pro is an add-on: it needs Tempo Book It Box Office 1.1.2 or newer installed and active, and it adds its features on top. Your venues, events, orders and settings are shared between the two.
Can I keep my existing seat maps?
Yes. The designer opens the plan the free grid builder made and keeps it. Redraw it with curved rows or tables whenever you like; performances already on sale keep selling against their own snapshot and don't change.
Does the scanner need an app?
No. Stewards sign in on any phone and open the scanner page, which runs full screen in the browser. It uses the camera, keeps the screen awake, and carries on offline with tonight's ticket list cached on the phone.
Which card readers work with the box office?
Stripe Terminal readers, driven from the till using the same Stripe account as your web sales. In test mode you can create Stripe's simulated reader and rehearse a sale. Any other card machine works too: choose Card terminal and type the reference from its receipt.
When should I turn spike mode on?
Before an on-sale you expect to be busy: a popular show, a school production where every parent clicks at 9am. Run the capacity check first and it will suggest a safe admission rate for your hosting. Leave it off for quiet sales and buyers go straight to the seat picker.
Will spike mode annoy buyers?
It's a lot less annoying than a site that falls over. Buyers see a waiting page in your theme with their place in the queue and a time estimate, can ask to be told when it's their turn, and are sent straight into the seat picker. A closed tab or a second tab keeps the same place.
What happens if I stop paying?
Pro keeps working but stops receiving updates and support. Deactivate it and the free plugin carries on with everything you sold, drawn and set up. Nothing is deleted.
Is there a trial?
No, but there is a 14-day money-back guarantee through Freemius. Buy it, try it on your own site, and if it isn't right ask for a refund.
