Emails not arriving

Working out where an email went missing: the plugin, the site, or the inbox.

Symptom: a family (or a staff member) says an expected email never came.

Diagnose in order; each step rules out a layer:

  1. Was it attempted? Tempo → Dashboard → System health → Email sending shows failed attempts from the last 7 days, and Tempo → Emails → Send log records every attempt. No row at all? The event may not have fired the email you think (check the recipient rules in Member emails and the staff matrix, and the member's own opt-outs: the reminder preference and per-child controls).
  2. Row says Failed? Your site has a sending problem, not a Tempo problem; WordPress couldn't hand the mail off. This usually appears on new or moved hosting. Installing an SMTP plugin (so mail goes through a real mail service rather than the web server) is the standard fix, and your host can advise.
  3. Row says Sent but it never landed? The mail left your site and got lost or filtered en route. Check spam folders and confirm the address on the account. If it happens often across recipients, that's email reputation, and the same SMTP plugin answer applies; a proper mail service transforms deliverability.
Note

"Sent" in the log means handed off, not delivered; that's the honest limit of what any plugin can know.

Reminder emails specifically: these come from a background job, so if reminders alone are missing, check Background jobs not running first; a stalled scheduler stops reminders while everything event-driven still sends.
