Member emails, per-child copies and reminders
Who in a family receives what, the one opt-out that exists, and how automatic reminders run.
Family email is where booking systems usually annoy people: duplicates, copies to eight-year-olds, reminders nobody asked for. Tempo's rules are worth two minutes to learn, mostly so you can reassure families that they're sensible.
Your site may use different words. Tempo lets you rename class, student and teacher under Settings → Branding & vocabulary; these docs use the defaults.
Who receives member emails
Booking confirmations, cancellations, absence confirmations, transfers and refund notices go to the purchaser and linked parents, plus the student's own address where the child has a real one. Sensible de-duplication is automatic: addresses are matched case-insensitively so nobody gets two copies, a child whose address matches a parent's gets one parent-worded copy, and parent-managed children's placeholder addresses are never emailed (the parent still receives everything).
Copies sent to the student's own address use student-addressed wording ("This is your reminder…") where the template provides it; parents always get the standard parent wording.
The one opt-out, and the per-child controls
- Class reminders are the only optional category. Each member can turn routine reminders off in their Account details. Confirmations, cancellations, payment and safeguarding messages always send; a family can't accidentally opt out of being told their class was cancelled.
- Parents control their children's copies. Per child (real email addresses only), a parent chooses which kinds reach the child's own address: confirmations, cancellations and changes, absence confirmations, reminders. This gates only the child's copy; the parent always receives everything. Default: all on.

Automatic reminders
A background job runs every 15 minutes and emails reminders for confirmed bookings starting within your reminder interval (default 24 hours, in Settings). Each booking is claimed before sending, so reminders can never double-send, and a booking with a reported absence is skipped; nobody is reminded about a class they've said they'll miss.
Credit lifecycle emails
Credit tells its own story unprompted: an email when credit is added or adjusted, a warning as a lot approaches expiry (default lead time 30 days), and a summary when credit expires. All automatic, all logged.
What about WooCommerce's own order emails?
They still send per your shop settings, and Tempo dresses them properly: order lines named after the class with the booking details visible, plus a manage-bookings link and your contact block. Tempo's separate confirmation email exists because it must also reach linked parents, students and staff, which a shop's customer receipt can't do. Families with an eye for detail see two coherent emails, not a duplicate.
