Background jobs not running

Reminders stopped, or the dashboard says the heartbeat is stale.

Symptom: Tempo → Dashboard → System health → Background jobs shows a stale heartbeat, or the symptoms of it: reminder emails stopped, credit-expiry notices missing.

What the jobs do: reminders, credit expiry warnings and general housekeeping run through WooCommerce's built-in scheduler. Reassurance first: capacity never depends on these jobs. Expired checkout holds stop counting the instant they lapse whether or not the sweep has run, so a stalled scheduler can't oversell a class or block a sale. What stalls is the mail and the tidying.

Fix:

  1. Confirm WooCommerce is active; it provides the scheduler.
  2. Go to WooCommerce → Status → Scheduled Actions and search the group name dsb. Failed runs are listed with their errors and can be re-run from that screen.
  3. On a very quiet site (typically staging or pre-launch), the scheduler only runs when pages are loaded; with no visitors, nothing ticks. Keeping a tab open works for testing; for a proper fix, ask your host to set up a real server cron for WordPress, which most hosts do as a matter of course.

Safe to re-run: all of Tempo's jobs are repeat-proof. Re-running a failed reminder or expiry job can never double-send an email, double-book or double-credit anyone, so pressing re-run is always safe.

If jobs run but specific emails still don't arrive, continue with Emails not arriving.
