The Need help page: who do I ask?
A ready-made page that sends class questions to your office and technical problems to booking-system support, without you building anything.
Every club fields two kinds of question: "can Freya move to Thursdays?" (one for your office) and "the booking page won't load" (one for the people who make the software). The Need help page answers "who do I ask?" for your members, routes each kind to the right inbox, and comes ready-made: Tempo creates it at /need-help/ on activation (established sites get it on the first page load after updating), and the matching theme links to it from the portal strip and the header menu.
Your site may use different words. Tempo lets you rename class, student and teacher under Settings → Branding & vocabulary; these docs use the defaults.
Like the booking and register pages, it's an ordinary WordPress page carrying a shortcode, and you can re-point Tempo at a different page under Tempo → Settings → General. It isn't a My Account tab, so it works for teachers as well as members.
One deliberate omission: there's no login help on it. Anyone reading the page is already signed in, so "I can't log in" help lives on the sign-in screen, where the locked-out person actually is.
What members see
Two cards, side by side on a wide screen and stacked on a phone:
- Classes and your child (or "Your classes" for an adult member; the wording follows the account, and your vocabulary throughout): questions for the office. It shows your office email as a ready-to-tap link, an optional "we usually reply within…" note, and your common questions as an accordion, first one open, working even with JavaScript off.
- Something not working?: trouble with the booking system itself. A few "try these first" quick fixes, then a short form, name and reply address already filled in from their account, one "What went wrong?" box. Sending swaps the form for a "Message sent" panel naming the reply address.
The support message arrives carrying what support needs to help without a back-and-forth: the member's account email and login, the page they were on before opening Need help, your site address, plugin/WordPress/WooCommerce versions and their browser, then their message, with Reply-To set to the member. Every send is recorded in the email log under its own help-request category, and one member can send at most five messages an hour; the sixth gets a polite "support has your messages" note instead of another email.
Making it yours
Everything member-facing on the page is editable under Tempo → Settings → Help page:
- Office email: where class questions go. Left empty, it falls back to your first staff-notification recipient, then the site admin email, so the page never shows a dead end.
- Support email: where the technical form sends. This ships pointing at Tempo's own support; leave it if we support your site directly, change it if a developer looks after you, or empty it to hide the form (and the small print) entirely.
- Response-time note: on by default with a standard sentence; untick to hide it, or write your own.
- Vendor attribution: the small print naming who provides support, switchable to hidden.
- Common questions and Try these first: two editable lists, shipped with sensible starting content. Add, remove and reorder rows to match your club; a Restore the standard content tick brings the shipped rows back if you've strayed and regret it.
All of this text accepts the same vocabulary tokens as your email templates ({class_word}, {student_word} and friends), so one set of answers reads correctly whether you run a dance school or a football academy.
When something's off
- The theme isn't showing the link: check Settings → General → Need help page points at a published page containing the shortcode. The dashboard's System health checks list it alongside the booking and register pages.
- "That didn't send": the email hand-off failed, the same transport every other plugin email uses. The attempt is in the email log as failed; your SMTP plugin's log will say why. See Emails not arriving.
- The support form is missing: the support email under Settings → Help page is empty or invalid; the form hides with it, by design.
For developers: the page is [dsb_help] / dsb_help(), its templates live in templates/help/ and can be overridden at {theme}/dsb/help/…, and themes get dsb_help_page_url() for their own links. See Shortcodes and template functions.
