Installing Box Office and first-time setup
Install the plugin, run the setup wizard, paste in your Stripe or PayPal keys and get ticket emails delivering reliably.
Setting up Box Office takes an afternoon at most. The steps below take you from a fresh install to a site that can sell a ticket.
1. Install and activate
Go to Plugins → Add Plugin, search for "Tempo Book It Box Office", install and activate it. Box Office adds its own menu to your WordPress admin; it does not live inside the Tempo Book It menu.
2. Follow the setup wizard
The wizard runs the first time you open Box Office. It walks you through the basics and creates the pages the plugin needs. You can change every answer later in the plugin's settings.
3. Connect a payment provider
Box Office takes payment through Stripe or PayPal. Paste your API keys into the payments settings. Card details are handled entirely by the provider and never pass through your site, so there is nothing else to secure on your end.
use your provider's test keys first, buy a ticket for yourself, then swap to live keys once you have seen the whole flow work.
4. Sort out email
Ticket emails carry the PDF ticket and the QR code the door will scan, so they have to arrive. WordPress's default mail is unreliable on most hosts. Install an SMTP plugin (or use your host's transactional mail service) before you put anything on sale.
5. Add your venue
If you sell reserved seating, add a venue and draw its seat map next. See Venues and seat maps. Skip this if you only sell general admission.
6. Create your first event
Add ticket types (Adult, Child, Concession, whatever you sell), create the event, add a performance with a date and prices, and publish. See Events, performances and going on sale.
What's next
- Check-in on the door covers show night.
- Orders, refunds and cancellations covers everything after a sale.
