Requirements

What your site needs before installing Tempo Book It, and why each piece matters.

Tempo Book It runs on an ordinary WordPress site. Before installing, check the site meets these minimums; any good WordPress host set up in the last few years will.

You needMinimum versionWhy
WordPress6.6The website platform itself.
WooCommerce8.2Free plugin that handles checkout, payments and orders. Every Tempo booking is a WooCommerce order.
ACF (Advanced Custom Fields)6.0Free plugin that powers the student profile fields (date of birth, emergency contacts and so on). ACF Pro works too.
PHP8.1The language WordPress runs on; set by your host, usually changeable in your hosting control panel.
Tip

Not sure of your versions? In WordPress admin, Dashboard → Updates shows your WordPress version, the Plugins screen shows WooCommerce and ACF versions, and most hosts show the PHP version in their control panel (often under "PHP settings" or similar). Tempo also tells you plainly at activation if something is missing.

WooCommerce notes

Tempo is built for the modern WooCommerce Checkout Block, which is what a fresh WooCommerce install uses by default, and it fully supports High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS), WooCommerce's current order system. If your site is new, there is nothing to do here. If your site has run WooCommerce for years with an older, customised checkout page, see Checkout, reservation holds and the countdown before going live.

You will also want at least one payment method enabled under WooCommerce → Settings → Payments. Tempo works with any WooCommerce payment gateway; Stripe is a popular choice for clubs. See Payment gateways.

Timezone

Set your site's timezone to your club's real timezone under Settings → General (for UK clubs, London). Tempo schedules sessions, reminders and booking deadlines in wall-clock club time and handles the clocks changing in spring and autumn correctly, but only if the site timezone is right. Tempo's dashboard health check will warn you if it isn't.

Hosting

Nothing exotic is required: shared hosting is fine. Two things are worth knowing:

  • Background jobs (reminder emails, expiring old reservation holds) run through WooCommerce's built-in scheduler. On a normal live site with visitors this just works.
  • The one-click matching theme install needs your server to be allowed to download files from the internet. Almost all hosts allow this; if yours doesn't, there is a manual route described in Installing the matching theme.
