The phone scanner
Turn any phone into a full-screen scanner that never stops, works offline, admits a party pass in one scan and counts every door.
The free plugin opens a booking from a QR code, one at a time, on the Door screen. Pro adds a scanner that runs full screen on a phone and goes straight from one ticket to the next. There is no app: it runs in the phone's browser.
Two ways to scan
- The Scanner page, under TBI Box Office → Scanner, for a laptop or tablet at the desk: an in-page camera, a door list you can search, recent scans and the night's count.
- The phone view, at
yoursite.co.uk/?tbo_scan=1, linked from the Scanner page as Phone view. Full screen, big colour, one hand. This is the one for stewards.
Both need the steward to be signed in with the Tempo door role (or a manager's account). Someone with the door role sees the door and nothing else. The camera only works over https, and the browser will ask permission to use it the first time.
Before doors open
Open the phone view and tap Change on the bar at the top. Choose tonight's performance, which stops tickets for a different show being admitted by mistake, and give the door a name so the counts and the cash-up know which entrance was which. Do this while there is a signal: the phone downloads tonight's list, and from then on it can work without one.
Scanning
The standby screen has one button, Tap to scan; the camera is off until then to save the battery. Point the phone at the QR code on a ticket or a party pass. Each result fills the screen in a colour a steward can read at arm's length:
- Green: checked in. The seat, the name and the performance, then back to scanning by itself after a couple of seconds.
- Green: party of N. A family on one pass. Count them through with Check in all or one at a time; anyone not here yet stays valid on the same code.
- Amber: already scanned. When and at which door. Usually a double-tap or a screenshot shared round the family; check the name, then Let them in anyway or go back.
- Red: wrong performance. The right show, the wrong night. Send them to the box office, or Admit anyway.
- Not valid (refunded, cancelled or never paid) and Not recognised (not one of our codes). Check the booking by name.
A crumpled printout that will not scan has a short code under its QR, like TT-ABC123. Type code instead takes it. There is a torch button for a dark foyer, and each scan is confirmed with a sound and a buzz.
Offline
Lose the Wi-Fi in the foyer and the scanner carries on: tickets are checked against the list saved on the phone, and every scan is queued and sent in order when the signal returns. The banner at the top says Offline: scans are queued and how many are waiting to sync.
Counts and undo
The foot of the screen keeps tonight's tally: how many are in, out of how many sold. A check-in made by mistake is undone from the Scanner page or the Door screen. Attendance by door appears in Reports afterwards.
If the scanner sits idle
After a while with nothing scanned the phone returns to standby and the camera turns off. One tap starts it again.
